2016 EPL Week 18 Scores and Reviews

Liverpool 4 – 1 Stoke City:

Stoke had the upper hand early on in the game with strong pressure and high intensity. Their strong play resulted in a 12th-minute goal from Walters, which then put some pressure on Liverpool to reply. Until Lallana found the equaliser, thanks to former Liverpool player Glen Johnson’s mistake. This showed his prowess as an attacking midfielder, but still isn’t Liverpool’s danger man, with Roberto Firmino showing why he is Liverpool’s key player with a brilliant goal in the 44th minute.

However, Stoke City couldn’t handle the strong side of Liverpool and started to make a few to many mistakes and Gilbert Imbula’s own-goal topped off the mistakes from Divock Origi’s cross. Then in the70th-minutee injury-pron Daniel Sturridge found the back of the net to put the icing on the cake in Liverpool’s 3-goal difference win, to secure the second place on the table.

Chelsea 3 – 0 AFC Bournemouth:

Chelsea came into this came with no Kante or Costa as they were out for Suspension. However that didn’t seem to matter has Chelsea still managed to pull away the big W. Now  they are two wins short of Arsenal’s 14 game winning streak back in the 2001-2002 season.

Bournemouth were decisive in the fact that they tried to maintain possession and keep the ball away from Chelsea’s offensive line. However Chelsea’s winger, Pedro found a hole in  Bournemouth’s defence and fired it into the back of the net in the 24th minute. When you look at the stats, Bournemouth were the better team with 54% of the possession to Chelsea’s 46%, and had 5 shots on target to Chelsea’s 2. But Bournemouth’s attackers couldn’t seem to find the netting as Courtois was always their to stop every shot. Although, Chelsea took their chances and made sure they didn’t miss, with Eden Hazard’s clinical penalty just after halftime and Pedro’s second in stoppage time.

Southampton 1 – 4 Tottenham Hotspur

Southampton came onto the pitch, wanting the win from the start with Van Dijk putting the ball into the back of the net in the 2nd minute from a free-kick cross. However Tottenham knew this was a key game to win to secure their top five position, so with Dele Alli opening the score sheet for the spurs in the 19th minute, they got back into the game. Then with Kane’s brilliant put away from a great cross which came from Christian Eriksen, Southampton started to struggle as they were down to 10 men and had the likes of Austin and Clasie out on injury.

Although Harry Kane’s missed penalty gave Southampton a bit of hope, until Heung-Min Son found the goal to make the score 3-1 by the 85th minute. By then, Southampton knew they had lost the game and were just trying to find a consolation goal, but the world-class Dele Alli was on the ball in open space and found the bottom corner of the net. It turned out to be a very convincing win for Tottenham, and helped them on their title campaign.

Manchester United 3 – 1 Sunderland

It was always going to be tough for Sunderland to face the red devils at Old Trafford, with Daley Blind linking up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to found the bottom corner of the net in the 39th minute after Paul Pogba missed a couple of chances early on. This topped off a very good half from Blind himself. However, Its very hard to stop an attack force with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the main part of it, has he got 1 goal and 2 assists. He found the net long after the first goal in the 82nd minute.

Then came the real magic with Henrik Mkhitaryan stunning back heal finish in the 86th minute from a great cross of Ibrahimovic’s. Mkhitaryan said himself that it was his best goal of the season, and I think it was the best goal of the month. It wasn’t only Ibrahimovic that was becoming a amazing player throughout the game, their was Pogba who was doing all the hard work to setup the goals. This result helps to keep pressure on Tottenham for that top 5 position on the table.

TOTY EPL Nominees

It’s almost the new year which only can mean one thing, that the team of the year is almost here. Over the past month, all the nominees have come in through all the different leagues, and I am here today to review the best EPL nominees for the Team of the Year.

Forwards:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: With a total of 50 goals in 45 games for both PSG and Manchester United, he’s been an impressive player on the field. At the age of 35, he’s still playing and scoring goals like he was 25. He’s always been a deadly threat in front of goal at the height of 6,5, there’s no wonder he’s on the shortlist for TOTY.

Sergio Aguero: Aguero has always been a deadly striker for Manchester City since he arrived in 2011, although he doesn’t have the height like Ibrahimovic, he saves up for it with his ability to dribble past defenders with pace and finish the ball into the back of the net. The 28-year-old is at the peak of his career with 22 goals in 26 games in 2016.

Alexis Sanchez: The Chilean Winger has been an amazing player for Arsenal throughout the time he’s spent at the gunners. He’s exactly what you want in a winger with his pace and dribbling to his crosses and shooting. After Arsene Wenger snatched him up in 2014 for $43million, he’s been a world-class player. Having 20 goals and 10 assists in 2016, there probably won’t be a spot for him as it’s taken by Ballon’O dor winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jamie Vardy: The Englishmen was a massive part of Leicester City’s fairytale win of the Premier League in the 2015/16 season. With his incredible speed and shot on him, he was impossible to stop. With him also breaking a record for scoring 13 goals in 11 games in a row. After Vardy’s amazing season, saw him get a big spot in the England National team.

Midfielders:

Mesut Ozil: The German attacking midfielder, known as the ‘Assist King,’ has been amazing for Arsenal in 2016. Ozil had 20 assists and 11 goals in 2016, with the ability of assisting anyone in any position, he seems the perfect attacking midfielder for any team. The 28-year-old can also dribble past defenders and can easily skill through any player. I think Ozil has a very good shot at clinching that TOTY spot.

Kevin De Bruyne: The Belgium is a big part in Manchester City’s attack plan with 4 goals and 14 assists. De Bruyne is an incredible player on the ball and is extremely entertaining to watch. The 25-year-old is an amazing midfielder because of his deadly long shots, perfect crossing and terrific vision to read plays. These abilities make De Bruyne a world-class player.

Dimitri Payet: The Frenchmen is doubtably the most improved player of 2016, after joining the Hammers, he has emerged as their most outstanding and key player, some say that he sometimes carries West Ham. Payet is well-known for his spectacular free-kicks, his extreme long shots, and amazing ball control. After having a brilliant season with West Ham he got called up by the France national team for the Euro’s, where he scored the winning goal against Romania in the 89th minute of the opening match. I think the 29-year-old has a great chance of being selected in the TOTY.

Defenders:

Hector Bellerin: The crazily fast right-back has been a key part of Arsenal’s campaign. As he can go on attack and deliver superb crosses into the box and run back in time to defend and stop wingers charging at their defense. The Spanish man has amazing agility and the ability to intercept any passes that are nearby him. The 21-year-old is up against some hefty candidates for the spot with the likes of Lahm, Alves and Carvajal also up for the spot.

Keepers:

David De Gea: The Spanish keeper has always been the second best goalie behind Manuel Neuer for the past couple of TOTY’s, but this year is looking to become the best keeper in the world for 2016. As he’s been Manchester United Wall for the past 6 years, he’s also been the red devils lifesaver in a couple of situations this year. With his strengths being his quick reflexes and is fantastic diving. It’ll be interesting who will get the spot as Neuer has also had a great year with Bayern Munich.

2017 Transfer News

It’s only a few days away, but everyone is eager to see all the latest transfer news and rumors. Personally, I think we’ll be in for a surprise with all the latest transfer talks. Every team is chasing new fresh talent to strengthen their side and clinch some more wins to achieve their premier league goals. Today I’ll be reviewing the top 10 EPL transfer rumors and news.

10 Memphis Depay: The 22-year-old winger for Manchester United, has had a disappointing couple of seasons for the Red Devils, with 2 goals in 33 games. The so-called ‘Next Ronaldo,’ had a brilliant season for PSV in 2014/15 at the age of 20, with 22 goals in 30 games and winning the Eredivisie. The Dutch winger has been linked to Everton at a price tag of $12million. I think it would be a very good team for him to produce his full potential and prove everyone wrong that he is the ‘Next Ronaldo.’

9 Morgan Schneiderlin: The United midfielder has been a consistent defensive midfielder for Manchester since he arrived. Now with the new manager Jose Mourinho and the signing of fellow French midfielder, Paul Pogba, he hasn’t been getting the game time like he had last season and asked to leave. The 27-year-old moved to Manchester United in 2015 for a price tag of $35million but has now been in talks with a move to Everton or West Brom for $18million where he would be the player that he was a couple of seasons ago.

8 Oscar: The Brazilian is an amazing player with incredible talent, but hasn’t got the game time he needed to show his ability with the likes of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic progressing ahead of him. The 25-year-old came to Chelsea in 2012 for $32million and was the new prospect for Chelsea and the Premier League. Oscar has now accepted a move to Shanghai SIPG for $61million and will get $400,000 a week.

7Nelson Semedo: The 23-year-old full-back has been a big part in Benfica’s plan to chase down the oppositions wingers. Semedo is a very pacy right-back that has the ability to dribble down the wings and deliver the ball into the box. He also can get back in time into position and shut down the oppositions’ attack. The Portuguese youngster has been in talks with Manchester United as an option to complete the Red Devils defense line. United have to pay Semedo’s whopping $68million release clause.

6 Victor Lindelof: The Swedish youngster has risen his profile by becoming a world-class defender for Benfica. He has been able to shut down opponents strikers and clear the ball from crosses. The 22-year-old has stayed with Benfica his whole football career and is possibly looking for a bigger step in his career. Lindelof along with teammate Nelson Semedo has been linked to Old Trafford, for a price tag of $42million. I don’t know why Mourinho would be interested in another central defender as they have got Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling. Although moving to the Premier League seems like a good move for Lindelof.

5 Joe Hart: The Englishman is an incredible keeper with the ability to do amazing saves because of his fast reflexes. The 29-year-old was sold to Torino recently this year on a free transfer from Manchester City where he has spent most of his career at. Hart has now been linked back to the Premier League with a move to Liverpool or Man City. Manchester are willing to offer £120,000-a-week at City until 2019. However, I don’t think Jose Hart would want to go back to Manchester City as they didn’t renew his contract and let him become a free agent.

4 Daniel Sturridge: The Liverpool striker hasn’t had that much game time over the season’s at Anfield as he has had 20 injuries since 2012. Because of this, he hasn’t been able to play to the best of his ability.Since of these massive amounts of injuries, all the Liverpool managers since 2012 have needs to buy another striker as Sturridge would be out because of injury. The Englishmen has now be linked to a move to West Ham and Stoke. Both teams are very interested in Sturridge’s price tag of $28million. The move may be good for the 27-year-old, but we’ll need to wait and see.

3 Philippe Coutinho: The Brazilian has been amazing for Liverpool and now is the main man of the team. From his incredible long shots to his brilliant dribbling, he is now one of the best attacking midfielders in the world at the moment. The 24-year-old has now been linked to a move to Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. With Neymar being best mates with Coutinho he would fit right in there, and Zidane desperately wanting him for a possible replacement for James Rodriguez, there is gonna be a big bidding war between the two clubs. Although Jurgen Klopp has said Coutinho won’t leave for a price tag of under $62million.

2 Antione Griezmann: The 25-year-old was in the top three nominees for Ballon’O dor and La Liga player of the year, he is an amazing striker and a deadly threat when on the attack. He has the ability to dribble with pace and finish in tough conditions. The Frenchman has reportedly been in talks of a $84million move to Manchester United. Especially with good mate and fellow teammate Paul Pogba who recently joined the Red Devils earlier this season, it would be a great move for him to make. Personally, I think Griezmann would shine and do brilliantly in The Premier League and develop his attacking ability.

1 Alexis Sanchez: The Chilean winger is an amazing winger for Arsenal who I think is the most inform player in the EPL. Sanchez has incredible shot and dribbling and is always a threat for defenders. After moving from Barcelona to the Gunners in 2014 for $43million he has been spectacular at the Emirates Stadium. The 28-year-old has now been in massive talks with Chelsea and Manchester City, with Juventus becoming very interested in the Forward. Although Arsenal fans would be deeply disappointed and heart broken if he does leave for a rival in the EPL.

It will be very interesting with the upcoming transfer window. If you enjoy the article please leave a like as its much appreciated. Be sure to check out my other articles. Thanks for reading !!

Title Race

Now it’s all on with 10 points separating the top five positions. Although Chelsea are now creating a continuously bigger gap between first and second with six points between them and Liverpool. However, it’s hard to say with nineteen matches still left in the season, it’s anyone’s’ trophy. And with the transfer season a couple of days away any team can pull through and clinch the championship. In the rest of the article, I’ll be reviewing all the top five teams in the league.

In first place is Chelsea, they have shown great strength and consistency over the past eight games with all the fixtures ending up in a win. Although many people have said that if Diego Costa or Eden Hazard get injured, that Chelsea will slowly fall down the table. Despite the fact that they may drop a couple of points, I disagree with that opinion as Chelsea have a lot of depth with Victor Moses and Willian to cover Hazard, and Michy Batshuayi to cover Costa.

In second is Liverpool, they were in very good form heading into the transfer season, but with the recent injury of Philippe Coutinho they dropped a few points but are now finding their feet with the 1-0 win over Everton at the Goodison Park. In my belief Liverpool are very good at scoping out young talent for cheap prices, a few of examples are the 10million transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Inter in 2013, Divock Origi for 12million Lille in 2015 and Emre Can for 12million in 2014 from Bayer Leverkusen. I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will be looking for any new talents this winter.

In third is Manchester City, at the beginning of the season everyone thought they were easily going to win the title as they were easily beating any team that played them and also with the win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, they were going to cruise to the championship. However, their consistency wasn’t as great as Chelsea’s and they started to lose a few important matches. Now with the transfer season just around the corner and the recent injury of Ilkay Gundogan, they’ll be looking to buy a couple of crucial talents to help secure their second Premier League title.

Back in fourth is Arsenal, they definitely have the ability and potential to be the top of the league, but have slipped when it comes to match time. Their attacking ability is brilliant at the moment with the inform Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil performing to the best of their ability. Arsene Wenger needs to improve and fix the weakness in the side and game plan, then they would be very hard to defeat. However Sanchez and Ozil have been in a lot of transfer talks and news, they will need to fill the massive holes that both players filled if they do leave.

In fifth is Tottenham Hotspur, they are a very strong side that have always been the underdog for the title race and have come close a couple of times. With the inform Heung-Min Son, Christian Eriksen and goal-scoring machine Harry Kane, they will be very hard to break down. Also with the transfer window just a few days away they’ll be looking to strengthen their side to have a better shot at the championship.  Tottenham will be very strong in a couple of years as their average age in their squad is 23.

It will be very interesting and tight in the next half of the season. If you liked the article please drop a like and leave a comment on what you want me to post and be free to write your own opinion on the title race.  Ignore the tags
